How To Restuff Couch Cushions

Couch cushions can become misshapen and uncomfortable over time. This is especially true if the cushions are filled with foam, which can break down and lose its shape. Restuffing your couch cushions is a relatively easy and inexpensive way to restore their comfort and appearance.

There are two main types of couch cushions: loose cushions and attached cushions. Loose cushions are not attached to the frame of the couch, while attached cushions are. The method for restuffing loose cushions is different from the method for restuffing attached cushions.

Restuffing Loose Cushions

To restuff loose cushions, you will need the following materials:

New foam or batting
Scissors
Sewing machine or needle and thread

Instructions:

Remove the old foam or batting from the cushion cover.
Cut the new foam or batting to the same size and shape as the old foam or batting.
Insert the new foam or batting into the cushion cover.
Sew the cushion cover closed.

Restuffing Attached Cushions

To restuff attached cushions, you will need the following materials:

New foam or batting
Scissors
Upholstery stapler

Instructions:

Remove the old foam or batting from the cushion.
Cut the new foam or batting to the same size and shape as the old foam or batting.
Place the new foam or batting on the cushion.
Upholster the cushion.
