How To Sew Couch Pillows

Decorative throw pillows are an easy way to add a splash of color and personality to your couch. They can also be used to add comfort and support. Sewing your own couch pillows is a great way to save money and get exactly the look you want. Here are the steps on how to sew couch pillows:

Materials:

Fabric (1/2 yard for each pillow)
Pillow form (18x18 inches or 20x20 inches)
Matching thread
Scissors
Sewing machine
Measuring tape or ruler
Iron and ironing board

Instructions:

Cut the fabric: Measure and cut two pieces of fabric that are 18x18 inches or 20x20 inches, depending on the size of your pillow form.
Hem the edges: Fold the edges of the fabric over by 1/2 inch and press with an iron. Fold the edges over again by 1/2 inch and press again. Stitch close to the folded edge to create a hem.
Pin the fabric together: Place the two pieces of fabric right sides together and pin around the edges. Make sure that the hemmed edges are aligned.
Sew the pillowcase: Stitch around the edges of the pillowcase, leaving a 4-inch opening on one side for turning. Backstitch at the beginning and end of the seam.
Turn the pillowcase right side out: Reach through the opening and turn the pillowcase right side out. Use a point turner or chopstick to gently push out the corners.
Press the pillowcase: Press the pillowcase with an iron to remove any wrinkles.
Insert the pillow form: Insert the pillow form into the pillowcase. Adjust the pillow form until it is evenly distributed.
Close the opening: Fold the raw edges of the opening under by 1/2 inch and press with an iron. Fold the edges under again by 1/2 inch and press again. Stitch close to the folded edge to close the opening.
