How To Build Outdoor Couch
Building an outdoor couch is a great way to add some extra seating to your backyard or patio. It's a relatively easy project that can be completed in a weekend. Here are the steps on how to build an outdoor couch:
Materials
2x4s (for the frame)
2x6s (for the seat and back)
1x4s (for the trim)
Exterior wood screws
Wood glue
Stain or paint (optional)
Tools
Circular saw
Drill
Sander
Tape measure
Level
Clamps
Instructions
-
Cut the 2x4s to length for the frame. The frame should be the size of the couch you want to build. Assemble the frame using wood screws and wood glue. Make sure the frame is square by measuring the diagonals and making sure they are equal.
-
Cut the 2x6s to length for the seat and back. The seat should be the same width as the frame and the back should be about 18 inches high. Attach the seat and back to the frame using wood screws and wood glue.
-
Cut the 1x4s to length for the trim. The trim should cover the edges of the seat and back. Attach the trim using wood screws and wood glue.
-
Sand the couch to smooth out any rough edges. Stain or paint the couch if desired.
-
Add cushions to the couch for comfort.
Tips
Use pressure-treated lumber for the frame and seat if you plan on leaving the couch outdoors.
Add a few coats of polyurethane to the couch to protect it from the elements.
Accessorize the couch with pillows and throws to make it more comfortable and stylish.
