The Couch to 5km (C25K) program is a beginner-friendly running plan that gradually builds up your endurance and distance over the course of 8 weeks. The C25K program was created by Josh Clark, a former couch potato who wanted to get in shape. The program has since become one of the most popular running plans in the world, with millions of people successfully completing it.

The C25K program is divided into three phases:

  • Phase 1: This phase lasts for the first 6 weeks and gradually increases the amount of time you spend running and the distance you cover.
  • Phase 2: This phase lasts for 1 week and focuses on maintaining your fitness level and continuing to build endurance.
  • Phase 3: This phase lasts for 1 week and is the culmination of the program, where you will run 5 kilometers without stopping.

Each week of the C25K program consists of three runs. The runs are typically scheduled on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, with rest days in between. The length and intensity of the runs gradually increase as you progress through the program. The program also includes a warm-up and cool-down period for each run.

Here is a sample schedule for the first week of the C25K program:

  • Monday: 1 minute of running, followed by 1 minute of walking (repeat this 8 times), then 5 minutes of walking
  • Wednesday: Rest
  • Friday: 1 minute of running, followed by 2 minutes of walking (repeat this 6 times), then 5 minutes of walking

As you progress through the program, the length of the running intervals will increase and the length of the walking intervals will decrease. By the end of the program, you will be able to run 5 kilometers without stopping.
