How To Measure A Couch For Slipcovers

An important step in buying furniture slipcovers is to first measure the furniture. This is necessary to ensure a proper fit once the slipcover is applied. Although every furniture piece will require different measuring methods, all use common tools: a measuring tape and notepad. For a standard couch, follow the steps below to properly measure for a slipcover.

Measure The Length

Measure the length of the couch from the left outside arm to the right outside arm. This is usually the longest measurement you will take. Write this measurement down as the "Length".

Measure The Depth

The depth is taken from the front of the couch (where you sit) to the back edge of the couch. Write this measurement down as the "Depth".

Measure The Back Height

Measure from the floor to the top of the couch back cushions. Write this down as the "Back Height".

Measure The Seat Height

Couch cushions will have a slight dip in the center where they are sat in. Measure the height of the seat cushion from the floor to the center of this dip. Write this down as the "Seat Height".

Measure Cushions

If the couch seat cushions are separate from the couch, measure the width and length of each seat cushion. Write these down as "Cushion 1 Length" and "Cushion 1 Width", "Cushion 2 Length" and "Cushion 2 Width", etc.
