How To Restuff Couch Pillows
Couch pillows can become flat and lumpy over time, but there are easy ways to refill them and make them look like new again. Here are the steps on how to restuff couch pillows:
Materials You'll Need:
- Couch pillows
- New pillow stuffing (such as polyester fiberfill, shredded foam, or feathers)
- Needle and thread (optional)
- Scissors
Instructions:
- Remove the Pillow Cover: Most couch pillows have removable covers. Unzip or unbutton the cover to remove it.
- Open the Pillow: Once the cover is removed, you will see the inner pillow. Carefully cut open the seam of the inner pillow, using scissors. Be careful not to cut the fabric of the pillow cover.
- Remove the Old Stuffing: Pull out all of the old stuffing from the inner pillow. Discard the old stuffing or use it for other purposes, such as stuffing pet beds.
- Add New Stuffing: Fill the inner pillow with the new stuffing. Start by adding small amounts of stuffing and gradually add more until the pillow is firm. You may need to adjust the amount of stuffing to achieve the desired firmness.
- Sew the Pillow Closed: Once the pillow is filled, sew the seam of the inner pillow closed. Use a needle and thread that matches the fabric of the pillow. Sew the seam securely to prevent the stuffing from coming out.
- Reinsert the Inner Pillow: Place the inner pillow back inside the pillow cover. Zip or button the cover closed.
- Fluff the Pillow: Fluff the pillow to evenly distribute the stuffing and give it a plump appearance.
Additional Tips:
- If your pillow cover has a zipper, you may be able to restuff the pillow without opening the seam. Simply unzip the cover and insert the new stuffing.
- If the fabric of the pillow cover is delicate, hand-sew the seam closed instead of using a machine.
- You can use different types of stuffing to achieve different levels of firmness. Polyester fiberfill is a good choice for a firm pillow, while shredded foam is softer and more comfortable.
- If your couch pillows are very large, you may need to restuff them in sections. This will make it easier to handle the pillows and distribute the stuffing evenly.
- Restuffing couch pillows is a simple and inexpensive way to refresh your furniture and make it look like new again.
