How To Take Apart A Recliner Couch

Before starting disassembly, prepare a clean workspace to lay out pieces as you remove them. It's also a good idea to collect tools and materials like a screwdriver, wrench, needle-nose pliers, masking tape, and zip ties.

Start by disconnecting the power source if your recliner is powered. Locate the power cord and unplug it from the outlet. If the recliner has a battery, remove it as well.

Remove all cushions from the recliner. These typically include the seat cushion, back cushion, and any smaller cushions like lumbar or neck supports. Once the cushions are removed, you will have a clearer view of the recliner's frame.

Identify the recliner's locking mechanism. This is usually located at the base of the recliner, where the footrest meets the seat. Depending on the type of recliner, the locking mechanism may be a lever, button, or latch. Release the locking mechanism to unlock the footrest.

Lift the footrest up and away from the seat. Once the footrest is removed, you will have access to the recliner's internal components.

Locate the recliner's recline mechanism. This is usually located at the back of the recliner, where the seat meets the backrest. The recline mechanism may be a lever, knob, or handle. Pull or turn the recline mechanism to disengage the backrest from the seat.

Lift the backrest up and away from the seat. The backrest may be attached to the seat with bolts or screws. If so, use a wrench or screwdriver to remove them.

Once the backrest is removed, you will have access to the recliner's frame and upholstery. You can now remove the upholstery by unzipping or unscrewing the fabric from the frame.

With the upholstery removed, you will have a clear view of the recliner's internal components. You can now repair or replace any damaged parts.

To reassemble the recliner, simply follow the disassembly steps in reverse order. Start by attaching the upholstery to the frame, then reattach the backrest to the seat. Next, reattach the footrest to the seat and engage the locking mechanism. Finally, reconnect the power source if your recliner is powered.
